Oxalic acid is an organic compound present in a large number of plants. These include leafy greens, bananas, beans, coffee, nuts and seeds . It is usually bonded to minerals in plants, forming oxalate. In nutrition science the terms “oxalic acid” and “oxalate” are used interchangeably. Oxalic acid with formula C2H2O4 is an organic compound. It is a crystalline white solid forming a colorless solution in water.
Its condensed formula is HOOCCOOH, which reflects its rating as the simplest dicarboxylic acid. Its acidity is much greater than acetic acid.
